The Innovation Africa Summit, which built on the momentum of the Year of Education declaration, focused on establishing resilient education systems that promote increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning across the African continent.
Focus on Educational Transformation
On April 29, 2025, key discussions revolved around unlocking Africa’s student potential through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), aligning closely with the mandate of the Science and Education Policy Unit (SEPU).
Representatives from SEPU expressed keen interest in several thematic areas, including gender-related issues in STEM education in Kenya, policy perspectives on STEM, and the empowerment of teachers with regard to educational materials and content.
Engagement and Partnership Building

During the Ethiopian evening session, SEPU representatives participated in roundtable discussions and engaged with potential partners. These initial conversations led to plans for future meetings aimed at exploring collaborative opportunities.
SEPU’s Dorice Khaemba reportedly expressed strong optimism about forming productive partnerships, stating that she was prepared for action and eager to see positive outcomes. The SEPU team also looked forward to further networking during the Ethiopian Cultural Dinner held later that evening.
Summit Collaboration and Participation
The summit has been praised for its unique ability to bring together stakeholders from various sectors, including industry leaders, government ministers and officials, as well as multilateral partners, fostering a collaborative environment for educational transformation in Africa.
